No shave November is now a far of distant memory and the long winter has come and gone, it’s time to tame that wild winter beast of a beard gentlemen. Board shorts and a full-length beard may not be trending this summer. Here are some general maintenance tips to keep your beard looking fresh in the coming warmer months.
Your beard hair should never, ever, combine with your chest hair. This is also known as the dreaded “neck beard”. Don’t do it. “That guy over there is really rocking a good neck beard.” – said no one ever.
So if your beard doesn’t go all the way down to your chest hair where should it end? A good beard should never end just at the jaw line; things should be trimmed off around your Adam’s apple about midway between jaw and chest.
Trim or clip to help the beard keep shape twice a week using a brush and quality scissors. Invest in a good pair of clippers and a beard comb. Pruning is essential to maintaining a quality beard. Keep your face shape in mind when trimming your beard, are you looking to grow it out long or just keep a cropped look? Trim appropriately for your beard goals.
Wash it. Just like the hair on your head, your beard hair needs to be shampooed and sure go ahead and grab some conditioner to make it soft and silky to the touch. Be sure to rinse completely and pat dry with a towel. Combing it while still damp using a wide toothed comb. This is ideal for removing all tangles and keeping a tidy, clean beard. If you don’t have time
to wash it on a daily basis, investing in a flannel towel to steam clean the skin underneath the beard is a good way to quickly freshen your facial hair.
Give some love to your forgotten ‘stache. Make sure to keep your mustache trim and sculpted. If you have a thick mustache it is a good idea to pick up some medium-hold mustache wax to help it keep its shape throughout the day.
Get some beard oil. This may sound a like overkill, but if you want to wear a beard 365 days of the year you might as well make it the most luscious face piece the ladies have ever laid their eyes on. For a softer, shinier beard that smells intoxicating invest in good beard oil.
